What We Do
“How you Can Still Use Race in College Applications, and Alternative Strategies if You Don’t”
Use ESSAID’s proprietary method to systematically identify an essay topic, and to organize and refine your content the way admissions officers view favorably in admitting students.
CHAT with other applicants from all over the country about schools of choice, and experiences during school visits.
CHAT with college students who went through this process just last year. Hear their Tips.
ESSAID is a member of the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education (AABHE), an individual and institutional member-based organization with sponsorships from colleges and universities throughout the country.
The United States Supreme Court recently held that race cannot be used as a plus factor by colleges that receive federal funds. But a careful reading of the case reveals that race can be discussed in certain narrowly crafted ways as part of the student’s essay.
After all, college admissions offices look for the uniqueness in you that stands out from competing applicants. Colleges ask you to bring that out in your essay. The uniqueness of you includes the experiences you have had, in your own skin, navigating the world as you perceive it through your lens, and how you react to the challenges of how the world perceives you. We have developed a proprietary process – Experiential Essay Builder (“EEB”) – that allows you to tell your story within the guidelines authorized by the Supreme Court, while eliminating language that is prohibited for plus-factor in the admissions process.
Make Sure You Still Apply! When California stopped using race as an admissions factor, so many students of color did not apply. They were self-defeat4d and will never know if they would have gotten in. Use the examples we provide. Nuances matter!
